We insist on the idea that we must focus on what is yet to be done. There are those out there who are already starting to guess who Cape Verde's opponent will be in the semi-finals, those who are already watching scenes from the final and who will win the cup, forgetting that the decisive thing is... beating South Africa , in the quarter-finals. We have to be prepared and well prepared for next Saturday's match, study the opponent well, know their strengths and weaknesses, as only a good team gives Morocco two-nil, fourth in the last World Cup.
Can we beat South Africa and reach the semi-finals? Clearly yes; in fact, in three games against the South Africans, we won two and drew one. So do we have a qualified team, players, coaches to smile at the end of Saturday? We certainly have. Should we have ambition, a lot of ambition? Undoubtedly!
But, in football - whoever deals with it knows this - each thing in its own right. "Game by game" sounds like commonplace, conservative speech, empty talk, but it's really like that... Let's think about South Africa, play with determination, intelligence, humility, patience and... competence with which we have provided Cape Verdeans and football lovers until now, and then we will soon see...
